GM plans to open 600 dealerships in China in 2012

Detroit Free Press -- GM plans to open 600 dealerships in China this year and nearly double production capacity despite a slowdown in sales growth, chairman Dan Akerson said Monday at the Beijing Auto Show.

China is the world's biggest auto market by vehicles sold, but sales growth slowed from 35% in 2010 to just 2% in the latest quarter. Demand has been blunted by government credit and investment controls aimed at slowing an overheated economy.

"We fundamentally believe in the strength of the Chinese market," Akerson said today.

GM will expand its dealership network from 2,900 last year to 3,500 by the end of this year, Akerson told reporters.

1) GM is not moving; they are opening showrooms to sell the cars that are built over there.

2) The bailout money is paid back.

ExxonMobil made 9.45 billion dollars in the 1st quarter of 2012!! Their gross income was 124.1 billion dollars sucked from the American economy!! The other big oil companies also made profits in the billions of dollars!! Our country can't survive with those dollars being drained from our economic vitality!! We need Congress to declare the petroleum industry a public utility and break up the oil monopoly!! Teddy Roosevelt and congress broke up the Standard Oil Company and made it into a number of smaller companies and gave them subsidies as long as they produced our natural resources into reasonable price gasoline for our economic growth!! WE need Congress to bring back the Sherman anti trust laws which prevented companies that lent themselves to monopolistic practices, from price fixing and gouging the American consumer!! Congress needs to hear the cry of the people and save our country!!

mplato - GM is NOT run by Obama! Since GM is now profitable it looks like the bailout, that all the right wing nut jobs opposed, worked and saved thousands of American jobs!

Thinking that republicans will make policy change which shift jobs to the US is flawed. They favor laissez-faire, which means more of what is happening.

On a side note, I did like the Jeep model in the article.

What happens with the president doesn't care about jobs in the USA. We give car companies our taxes and the lay off employees (non-union ones)and then take the companies overseas.

Do like other car companies build it in their country and ship overseas so the jobs are in the once great USA..

Hurry up November.. We need a new president in the WH that cares about the people in the USA!!!!!
