Thanks! She wasn't my first choice, but I can't imagine ever riding another. Good thing that she has a small tank, because I have a serious "lead butt". Calypso is so easy on me that if I didn't have to stop for go juice, I wouldn't.
Ride On!

Nice VTX! I almost bought one, then I test rode a Suzuki M109R...that's what I have now and I love it! The VTX 1800 would be my second choice though...

I have two 1982 Honda GL500 Silverwings. One is actually a police motorcycle. Basically, they are a baby Goldwing.

Man, you guys sure like the smaller bikes, don't you? These days I wouldn't even consider anything with less than about 1600 or 1700ccs...

Thanks! I'll probably test drive one of those some time. I don't think I'd ever have the courage to ride a motorcycle on I-880. =P

Depends on what type of riding you plan on doing and how experienced you are. Since you are "vertically challenged" (no offense intended), you most likely need a bike that sits fairly low. My sister is about 5' 01" and rides a Honda CMX250. It is fine around town but marginal in traffic on the highway. It is relatively low to the ground so she can put her feet down flat at stops. Has decent power to keep up with traffic in town. It is a good "first" bike to learn on.
My sis would like something with more oomph now. I am afraid that she is pretty limited to "cruiser" type bikes in order to keep the seat height down. Have been looking at some 500 - 750 bikes for her.

I thought about getting one. What would you recommend for someone who's 4'11" and weighs 110lbs? I know I can't have a motorcycle that's too light or the wind will take me. *(>_<)*

After not riding for a couple of decades, I bought a 1982 Honda Nighthawk 650. Since, I tend to have an eight-year-old daughter on the back I quickly decided this wasn't the bike for me. Since then I've moved up (or down) to a 1982 Honda Silverwing GL500. This bike is perfect for us. I love the fact that she has a backrest. I like knowing she's still there.

I absolutely love Hondas and I think they are the best built bikes in the world. That said, they really don't have a model that appeals to me right now. Now if they were to come out with a new VTX with 2000ccs or more, with at least a 250mm rear tire, shaft drive, and performance that falls somewhere between that of the VTX 1800 and the new V-Max, I'd be the first person to buy one. Unfortunately, I don't see them building such a beast...

I ride an '85 GL1200 Interstate. Had various bikes over many years, still have '78 XS650 Yamaha and '69 Triumph T120R. The Honda certainly is a fine highway rider.

Who'd like to buy my 1985 Goldwing? Only about 88,000 km (55,000 mi) on it. The whole bike has been recently gone over & redone mechanically except for two things: front end bearings (steering bearings haven't been opened up & cleaned, checked &/or repacked with fresh grease) and it likely is going to need a new stator. Best offer. Contact me a14morfun -at- y a h o o -dot- c o m

Feb 26th - first ride to work of the year -5C. Snowed like hell that afternoon (stupid weatherman). Rode it home the next tuesday and have been riding most days since. The cm185 starts on the 3rd kick everytime, even when it's below zero.

First motorcycle I ever rode was a 360 Scrambler. I had an SL-125, which I traded for an XL-250. After I got married, sold my bike, haven't had one since then.

You need a bike with more trunk space. The Wing does well. I you want that much of a bike. Sometimes I with I had something smaller, more nimble, but I like the Goldwing.

If it weren't so friggin cold in the AM I would ride because the afternoons are really rideable. But all the gear for cold isn't really transportable since my bags are packed with girly stuff like my purse... hygiene items (you know, to cover up that road smell) and my lunch bag. I need bigger bags.
Glad you got your last ride in.

"Had an '04 Shadow Sabre 1100. Would have been a great bike but I never cared for the shaft drive. If it'd had a belt drive I'm not sure I'd have ever gotten rid of it!"
I'm just the opposite. I'd never own another bike that wasn't shaft drive. Belt drive is nothing more than a rubber chain drive.
