He was very sober on the Hub and while it's tough on DR to be out late in
the season, the line up for MWR for next year does look pretty good. Fact
is in today's racing it helps if you can court sponsors and project the
image they want, Rooty didn't do that compared to alternatives. As I used
to tell people I interviewed for jobs, technical talent I can find, getting
the job done with people is just as important. In this case that includes
the image that the sponsor wants.

Say what you want about these guys, but DW & company are the current longest running team of racing announcers, in their 11th consecutive year on FOX. Who's 2nd longest? Michael Waltrip, Phil Parsons & Rick Allen, 7+ years running on SPEED. The guys have charisma.

Mikey wins the Trucks' 250 at Daytona, on the 10th anniversary of his '01 win and Dale's passing.

I can't even begin to think how emotional he must be after this win...
Now just imagine if he does it on Sunday!

The 55 number didn't bring him much luck and looking at his results in the shootout, the 15 isn't going to bring back any luck either.

He's a likeable enough guy but it's probably time for him to park. However, that said, if it comes down to it, I'd rather see him out there trying to race than a Schelmerdine or a Bodeen.

Is Waltrip on Hendrick's payroll. It seems he is always causing late caution to get Hendrick cars up front.

I have not heard of a single event where any of Waltrip's cars, in any series, have started with the intention of stopping. Waltrip is in the series to race, unlike some of the bushleaguers that are diluting the sport.

I agree with you on Nemechek for the most part. In regards to Mikey, I would sure hope he didn't start and park considering the large sponsorship he gets from Napa. If Nemechek had a sponsor like Napa I am pretty sure he'd run pretty decent. Would he win races, it's possible he would get one here or there. But looking at the big picture who can really compete for wins against the Hendrick's and Gibb's of the sport?
Seems more and more like it's 5-6 cars that do the majority of the winning and other teams pick up the scraps.
It's somewhat similar to the days of the "Big Four" in the 70's when they won the majority of the races. Times were different back then and the amount of money needed to run well was much less in comparative terms.

At this point, Nemecheck is part of the problem, not the solution. He was once cabable of qualifying well, and perhaps even winning. He no longer is. Now he just outqualifies some real talent, then parks the car to make a quick buck.

One thing Waltrip has never been guilty of - start and park!

Maybe what Nascar needs to do is go back to a 36-car starting field at most of the races? It would eliminate most of the "start & park" cars I would think. The only bad side to that is people like Nemechek would be forced out of the sport due to financial reasons.
In the old days the tracks used to help the independent teams out by giving them money or helping them with parts for the cars. One guy that comes to mind is Richard Howard who used to be the promoter at Charlotte. He did quite a bit so that the smaller teams could get out there and run the races. Of course things were much cheaper then but the racing was more interesting.

Let's see. Stayed on the lead lap the entire race. Avoided the crashes. Finished seventh, right behind the points leader. Not bad for an elderly racer.

I like Mikey..he does a good job as a broadcaster but maybe his racing is suffering due to him spreading himself too thin.. he does color for the trucks, he has his TWIN show on SPEED plus his obligations to his sponsors and his role as an owner. I think hiring Truex Jr as a driver is a step in the right direction. the 00 car is in the top 15 in points and just missed the chase and the 47 car which uses MWR equipment and technology is also running strong watch for the 56 to be a player next season.

Not so good, though. On the other hand, he's having fun, he's racing, he's showing off his sponsor. Any doubt that it's hard to walk away from something you really like doing?
