Today on Veteran’s Day 7-Eleven is saluting active, veteran and retired U.S. military personnel and their families with free, small Slurpees between 11 am and 7 pm. Accompanying family members also will receive the free beverage.

If you think that's just a publicity gimmick, you'd be wrong.
The slurpee giveaway is the centerpiece of the month-long "Operation: Thank You" campaign, which enlists 7-Eleven customers to show their support for U.S. troops by adding a $1 donation to the USO (United Service Organizations) when they check out at participating 7-Eleven stores. Donated...

a small slurpee??? seriously? how about 5 gallons of free fuel or something actually worth something. They risk their lives and get rewarded a slurpee? ridiculous.

Every vet should slurpee shower DeMint for his comments in the senate...

"Sen. Jim DeMint (R-S.C.) distinguished himself Thursday as the only senator to oppose a measure aimed at hiring veterans"

Nice thing to do, though a discount on gas would have been better. Glad they did something though.

Thank you to all the veterans out there.

I support the military but give them something useful like a coupon for a free tank of gas with a $10 purchase instead.

Johnnyrebell12, I'm glad you haven't forgotten what it was like during Vietnam. I didn't dare wear my uniform out in public for fear of being spat at or heaven knows what else. I only hope that today's attitude means many have wised up. I'm glad today's troops don't have to experience what we did. Thanks 7-11, Applebee's, and the rest. It's nice to finally feel appreciated, even if it seems a little late.

Any gesture of 'Thanks' and good will toward our veterans, however small, is greatly appreciated -- and just a really nice thing! I commend 7-Eleven and hope this inspires other businesses to do the same.
