Did you know the dog days of summer are prime time for auto theft? That’s right. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration the top two months for vehicle theft are July and August!

Car theft can happen anywhere and anytime, but it’s important to remember that often these are “crimes of opportunity” and it can be our own careless mistake that makes the ‘opportunity’ too good to resist!

So a few words of advice may be in order…

• Don’t leave your car running because “it’s just a quick stop at Dunkin Donuts” or, you’re “only running into the store for a LOTTO ticket”

• Always take your key; don't leave it in or on your vehicle.

• Close and lock all windows and doors...

So the coldest states have the least vehicles stolen - is this because of the weather or are we just so much nicer - lol?

Must have missed this when it originally came out but it is even more vital now that colder weather is soon to arrive in parts of the country and people will want to leave their car running to keep the heat blasting.

I take my keys out and lock my car when I'm pumping gas and my now teen is in the car I've done it since she was an infant and It's a habit I don't intend to break so no matter the age of the person in the car with me when I'm getting gas they get locked in LOL.

If you have aluminum alloy wheels like I do on my Honda, consider wheel locks. I had one stolen a while ago. Just make sure you keep the key handy, if you have to change a tire or take the car into the shop!

Yes, it is tempting when it is hot to leave the windows cracked but that is all they need to get in. I have a car alarm but when you are in the store you do not hear it go off and they have your vehicle before you know it. With this economy and people out of work they find ways to make money for their needs. Sad to say but the worst the economy the worse the theft!

Yeah the 'Club' is great for keeping the crooks away. Fake alarm stickers sound interesting but don't most cars have an annoying car alarm nowadays? All common sense things to do but lazy sloppy stupid folks mess up all the time. Democrats I reckon. LOL

Because the law does nothing even when they catch these thieves, it's time we did something. Go back to the good old days and find a tall tree and a short rope and hang them.
Steal a man's horse and you get a rope necktie.

Damn -
I was going to leave the car running, with the windows down, and the AC on while I went into the store and got my groceries for the week.

That way when I got back the car would have had a chance to cool down.

Now I'll have to find another way!!!! Damn!

If you do either of the first 2, you deserve to have your car stolen and the insurance should not pay for it.

It really irks me when people leave their kids in the running car, so not only is the car stolen, the kids are too.

I keep a pile of fake poop(looks very real) in my glove box. Each and everytime I get out of my car I remove the poop from the glove box and place it in the center of the drivers seat. Nobody I mean nobody has ever messed around with my car. It really works.

Let's ban locks on cars so anyone can drive any car off. There is no need to look for yours. There is no market for cars. We all poll our money and can use any car. No profit, no theft.

Sounds like to me there should be a special hunt for those two months. Anyone that has passed Hunters Safety Course can participate.
