It may not seem to some that 2010 has seen the smallest range in gasoline prices in the last five years- but its true- and not even close to prior years.

I measured the past five years to see the maximum range of gasoline prices and see what year saw the biggest swing. Without even having to look I assumed the biggest range would have been in 2008 when prices went from $4/gal to under $2/gal. Sure enough- the price range in 2008 was the largest of the five years. Before I tell you- take an educated guess at what the price swing was in '05. Ready? It was two dollars and fifty-one cents per gallon. That's right- the national average in 2008 hit $1.61/gallon but also hit $4.12/gallon. Wow!

Comparing 2010 to the past...

I'd rather have "stable and low" as opposed to what we have.

PD: somehow I just don't buy the "stable" line... Maybe you ought to go to a horse racing barn... that's a better explanation for a "stable"!

Gas prices may finish 2010 as most stable in five years (?) but fuel prices are still too high at the pump. Fuel prices should be much lower than what they are now.

Wow, this is considered "stable". But then again, I remember prices changing 3-4 times a DAY a few years back.

The speculators keep pushing up the price of oil until it kills the economy and puts more people out of work.

Yeah... and if the 'producers' raised the price to $5, there would be no need in the near future (2011) to giggle the price down a dime... then up a quarter... then down a dime... then up 15 cents.
They could delight in their profits, until greed gripped their sphincters again.

So by saying prices are stable we should ignore the 70 cents increase the year? That's just in my area, I know that other areas have been harder hit.

Huh, gas prices most stable in five years? I think not as the prices have done nothing except escalate since the end of summer.

Gas prices are rising quickly now. The spike just a couple years ago led to the recession we are still in! Greed by Big Oil will stifle what little recovery we have now.
