At the end of 2004, EdPG, average US gas prices were $1.61. You had a Republican President and a Democratic Congress (both houses). Right now there is a Democratic President and Senate and a Republican House.

Gas prices are about the same as four years ago.
With Washington gridlock guaranteeing we'll be into tax and spending cuts by default, I pity whoever is in charge of anything in Washington this thanksgiving

Interesting how quiet the media is about gas prices now breaching $4.00. It would be all over the news if a Republican were running for re-election.

We'll never see gas under $3.00/gallon again.

Ever.

Unemployment was 4.0 when W came into office, and 5.8 when he left, what with the popping of the GWB bubble during the election year. For 2009 it was 9.3; 2010, 9.6; 2011, 8.9. It's now 8.2, and usually gets revised upwards a week later.

Interesting that Obuma's #2 campaign contributor was Goldman Sachs (and their executives, wives, children, in-laws, etc.), and that GS owns the Chicago Mercantile Exchange, where most oil futures are traded.

My theory: they wanted Obama in, popped the real estate bubble just as McCain was rising in the polls, and were all set to rake in profits from higher-priced oil. Further, higher petroleum prices would help push Obuma's "Green energy" agenda.

The whole thing is a rip-off. Global warming is a massive fraud. "Green Energy" is a scam. We'll never see $3.00 gas again.

You sound like a loyal Democrat, jcpatriots. But this time I hope you'll think hard and reconsider.

@traffic cop: "I'm thinking of getting some self-adhesive stickers with George W. Bush's face on it. It will say, "Remember me? That's when gas was under $2.00 a gallon. How's that hope and change working out now?"

Come on dude. I'm so sick of hearing people praising Bush for "low gas prices". You wanna know why gas prices were drastically low? BECAUSE NO ONE WAS DRIVING, BECAUSE EVERYONE WAS LOSING THEIR JOBS BECAUSE THE ECONOMY WAS CRASHING!!! Newsflash. Thank you. :)

I think it’s sad that gas prices are being used as a political tool or slogan. If we want lower prices in this country we need to elect a congress that will push for the end of speculation in the oil markets. The price of gas should be based on supply and demand not on what might happen.

So we're above $4.50 a gallon now, and it looks like summer vacation will see $5.00 and up! Just watch the economy stall (or worse) as people divert "discretionary spending" over to their gas costs.

I'm thinking of getting some self-adhesive stickers with George W. Bush's face on it. It will say, "Remember me? That's when gas was under $2.00 a gallon. How's that hope and change working out now?"
